Title: Library Aide Organization: Library Department: City Library Location: City Library Main Branch Rate of Pay: $13.00 Job Summary
Library Aides are the frontline for library service and require delivery of excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills. This position performs a variety of library related tasks such as assisting patrons at the public service desk, demonstrates information literacy, processes library materials, assists with computer related tasks and new technologies, interlibrary loan requests and processes, assists librarians with programs and other library duties as assigned.
Evenings and weekends are required. May assist at other library locations.

- Knowledge of commonly used work routines, rules, procedures, or operations; ability to use specialized equipment.
- Must be able to use Integrated Library System (ILS) to create, evaluate and clear patron records correctly when collecting payments; maintaining confidentiality is essential when inputting and reviewing patron records in ILS.
- Must have knowledge of electronic devices and apps used by library resources.
- Assist patrons with copiers, digital microfilm reader/scanners and other equipment common to library environment.
- Promote and assist with library programs and resources to patrons.
- Sorts and distributes mail, prepares newspapers and serials for public area.
- Performs all tasks related to opening and closing procedures.
- Assists with daily deposit.
- Shelves library materials.
- Maintain a clean and safe library environment.
- Answering incoming phone calls and assisting with patron queries.
High school graduate or GED is required.
2 years of customer service experience, library experience, cash handling experience, office experience or some equivalent combination is preferred.
Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Independence & JudgementMinimal judgment: instructions, once established and defined, normally allow the job to be accomplished without direct and/or constant supervision; mostly routine work requiring that employee recognize obvious problems; situations outside the instructions are referred to the supervisor or lead worker.
Initiative & IngenuityLow chance of error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: don't have to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor.
Supervisory & ResponsibilityDoes not supervise.
Financial ResponsibilityTakes money (fines, fees, etc.), gives receipts, does own balancing; no decision making; authorizes payment of accounts payable based on matching invoices; handles petty cash; makes purchases over $200.
Level & Frequency of Outside ContactFrequent contact with the public or other organizations; interactions may require obtaining cooperation of people; courtesy and tact are required when dealing with moderately difficult or sensitive issues.
Physical DemandsOffice job with little or occasional light physical effort. Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.
Responsibility for Equipment & PropertyResponsible for use of equipment/property such as office equipment, supplies, etc., which are used in office.
Working ConditionsOffice job, no adverse conditions.
