Are you passionate about telling stories that connect deeply with your community? KVEO, a Nexstar station in south Texas, is looking for a Sports Director who can bring heart, energy, and creativity to our coverage of local high school sports, Division I athletics at the University of Texas‑Rio Grande Valley, and the NBA G‑League RGV Vipers team.

This is more than scores and highlights. It’s about emotional storytelling that celebrates the athletes, coaches, and fans who make sports in the Rio Grande Valley unforgettable. We want someone who can capture the drama, pride, and spirit of competition and share it across all platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead the vision for sports coverage that resonates with both die‑hard fans and casual viewers.
  • Anchor engaging, personality‑driven sportscasts.
  • Report live from games and events, bringing viewers into the action and emotion.
  • Produce creative, distinctive, and memorable content for TV and digital platforms, including CTV.
  • Take part in the production of our weekly 30‑minute show spotlighting UTRGV athletics, Vaqueros Nation.
  • Host a weekly CTV digital show.
  • Build strong connections with the community through social media engagement and public appearances.
  • Respond quickly to breaking sports news and deliver compelling coverage.
  • Shoot, edit, and write stories that go beyond the scoreboard, stories that matter.
Requirements & Skills
  • A storyteller at heart with a passion for local sports and community pride.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • At least 4 years of sports reporting or anchoring experience (flexible based on market size).
  • Strong on‑air presence and ability to ad‑lib with confidence.
  • Skilled in video shooting/editing and digital content creation.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate with a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and deadline‑driven mindset.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility to work any shift.
