The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics Education, to begin in Fall 2026, based on the Brownsville campus.
We seek candidates with strong research potential in any area of Mathematics Education.
Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain a productive, independent research program that has the potential to attract extramural funding, actively contribute to departmental and programmatic growth, and demonstrate excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty in these positions are also expected to contribute to the academic and local community through mentorship, collaboration, and service consistent with the mission of UTRGV.
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving the UTRGV’s student body as an Assistant Professor of the SMSS beginning in the academic year.

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) comprises over 40 tenured and tenure-track faculty actively engaged in research across pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education. SMSS includes eight tenure-track and tenured faculty members actively engaged in K–16 mathematics education research. New faculty will find rich opportunities for collaboration with colleagues in both mathematics education and mathematics across SMSS and the broader UTRGV community.
The School offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs with concentrations that include Mathematics, Statistics, and Math Teaching. The School also offers a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Statistics with Interdisciplinary Applications. Overall, SMSS has over 100 graduate students and around 280 undergraduate majors. With a strong focus on graduate education and high‑quality research, SMSS plays an integral role in advancing the University’s goal of attaining Carnegie R1 status.
