Summary Of The Role
Next Decade is seeking a full-time Senior Process and Control Engineer to support long-term operations for the Rio Grande LNG facility located near Brownsville, Texas. The incumbent will report to the Process Manager in the Operations Engineering Department, under the leadership of the Director of Engineering. This position will be located in Brownsville, TX.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct equilibrium, non-equilibrium, and dynamic simulations to optimize LNG processes.
- Participate in risk assessments to ensure safety and reliability.
- Assist Production with tuning process control parameters and troubleshooting equipment or control system issues.
- Develop and implement regulatory and advanced process control strategies for efficiency and stability.
- Create and utilize steady-state and dynamic process models to enhance performance.
- Collaborate with engineers, operators, and control teams to define and implement Advanced Process Control (APC) strategies.
- Identify and prioritize units for APC based on operational data while ensuring compliance with safety constraints.
- Perform real-time data analysis to enhance control system responsiveness.
- Maintain documentation for process designs, simulations, and operational procedures.
- Integrate new technologies and automation systems for improved control and performance.
- Ensure Key Process Indicators (KPIs) for process control and APC modules meet targets.
- Analyze operational data to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
- Investigate process control incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulations.
- Support intercompany teams (Operations, Maintenance, Process Control, Reliability, etc.) with process engineering expertise.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for troubleshooting and project execution.
- Train plant personnel on process control systems and best practices.
- Travel periodically to Houston and other U.S. locations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- 10+ years as a Process Engineer in LNG, gas, petrochemical, or energy industries.
- Experience with APCI Propane Precooled Mixed Refrigerant Process (C3MR).
- Expertise in regulatory and advanced process control (APC) models.
- Proficiency in dynamic simulation software (HYSYS or similar).
- Strong background in acid gas removal, molecular sieve dehydration, mercury removal, hydrocarbon fractionation, and refrigeration.
- Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience developing steady-state simulations and heat/material balances.
- Knowledge of Management of Change (MOC), HAZID, PHA, and HAZOP processes.
- Familiarity with LNG industry standards, regulatory codes, and best practices.
- Strong collaboration, leadership, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent documentation and metadata management.
- Ability to work under pressure and effectively liaise with Operations, Safety, and Engineering teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to perform installed gain analysis.
- Knowledge of control valve and trim selection criteria.
- Knowledge of Equation Oriented (EO) Models.
