Area Superintendent – Bechtel Corporation – Brownsville, TX
Project OverviewBechtel is partnering with Next Decade on the Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project, a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal on a 984‑acre site on the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase includes three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks, and one marine berth, with a full‑capacity five‑train facility expected to produce 27 million tonnes per annum.
Job SummaryLead a team and supervise superintendents and/or craft professionals on the project. Direct craft activities, work schedules, subcontract coordination, and team development to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, schedules, budgets, and specifications.
Major Responsibilities- Supervise and direct craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others.
- Schedule work and review accomplishments.
- Determine workforce requirements.
- Coordinate area operational plans.
- Oversee tool and equipment usage.
- Manage field material requisitions for tools and consumables.
- Ensure use of current design documents and approve changes.
- Ensure subcontractor performance meets specifications and schedules.
- Work with field engineers, foremen, and craft professionals on engineering documents.
- Manage engineering solutions with subcontractors.
Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience, or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge & Skills- Knowledge of single or multi‑discipline construction or engineering operations related to field activities.
- Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy.
- Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, Supervisor’s ES&H Manual, Project Safety Management Plan, and Bechtel Core Processes.
- Experience on an LNG construction site, especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
- Heavy industrial direct‑hire construction experience.
- Preferential: experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing, or power‑generating station construction.
- Computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including night shifts or split shifts. Physical requirements include extensive walking, climbing ladders or scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and occasional lifting. Ability to enter/exit the site and use required PPE.
