Position SummaryUTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Brownsville is looking for a highly motivated Community Health Worker (CHW) to promote the mental well-being of youth in the Rio Grande Valley. The CHW will identify eligible participants, maintain clear communication with participants, and engage with community partners to support the implementation of various youth mental health initiatives. The successful applicant will be adequately trained and supported by the UTHealth Siembra Lab team on all pertinent aspects of the lab’s work.
PositionKey Accountabilities
- Community Outreach and Strategic Partnership Development
- Proactively reach out to and engage with participants and community organizations to coordinate sustained involvement with the Youth Action Board (YAB) and related research projects.
- Serve as the direct point of contact for youth participants and legal guardians engaged in YAB or youth-voice participatory action research projects; coordinate meetings with the research team.
- Collect and process progress report data, document youth feedback, identify challenges, provide actionable feedback, and potentially administer mental health screeners or other instruments.
- Assist research team with development and distribution of research or community-based products including publications, presentations, community events, recruitment materials, and dissemination materials targeted to the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Must have ability to perform complex administrative duties that involve application of procedures and demonstrate appropriate judgment.
- Community Health Worker (CHW) by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) required.
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum ExperienceOne (1) year of relevant work experience in health, social work or education; may substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum requirement.
Physical RequirementsExerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
Security SensitiveThis position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094. The holder must maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure and will be routinely reviewed for criminal history or continuous connections to foreign adversaries.
Residency RequirementEmployees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
