Job SummaryThe purpose of the Makerspace Supervisor is to inspire our community to become “makers” and embrace knowledge through practical activities that develop skills and encourage inventiveness and creativity. This position will oversee the operations and will forge unique ground in its programming and maintain a welcoming, well-equipped space where patrons of all ages can explore, learn and collaborate. “Maker Space” activities will offer the latest creative tools accessible to the public but always incorporate the vital human elements that make technology come alive.

- Supervises Maker Space staff.
- Knowledge of more complex work routines, rules, procedures, or operations; ability to operate higher-level specialized equipment.
- Promotes Maker Space initiatives.
- Assists patrons of all ages with tools, equipment, material and software in Maker Space.
- Provides one-on-one guidance and develops training plans for both patrons and staff.
- Keeps up to date on product knowledge regarding tools, equipment, material, and software to meet the needs of patrons in Maker Space.
- Research upcoming equipment and software to maintain Maker Space as a groundbreaking endeavor for patrons.
- Informs staff of updates or changes to equipment or procedures.
- Develops and maintains best practices for equipment and resources in Makerspace as well as updating them when either change.
- Maintains a safe, fun, and comfortable library environment.
- Advise the Brownsville Public Library System in the acquisition of tools, equipment, material, and software.
- Helps coordinate public service coverage in Maker Space.
- Plans, develops, and schedules programming and outreach events, and coordinates with library staff.
- Demonstrates flexibility to change direction/priorities based on community needs.
- May serve as a backup floor supervisor.

- Coordinates with other staff to ensure smooth operations and consistent patron support, especially when Advisors are absent.
- Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Awareness of new developments and trends in public libraries.
- Knowledge of gcode, CAD, and CAM is preferred.
- Knowledge of Corel and Adobe suites is preferred.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) plus two years of supervisory experience.
Associate’s degree in a STEM related field plus three years of supervisory experience.
Special Certifications & LicensesValid Texas Driver’s License.
