OverviewUnder the general direction of the Assistant Airport Director, this position is responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating security-related activities and communications at Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport. The Airport Security Supervisor ensures that the airport complies with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved Airport Security Plan, as well as the TSA-mandated rules and regulations. This includes reviewing all security-related functions to ensure adherence to 49 CFR 1542, its security program, and any applicable security directives.
The supervisor also initiates corrective actions for any instances of non-compliance with the airport’s security program and applicable security directives.
- Monitoring the operational and security activities in operational areas to ensure a safe environment and ensures compliance with Federal, state, local and department regulations, policies, and procedures activities.
- Coordinating with airport staff and other airport agencies on corrective actions to maintain compliance.
- Serves as primary and immediate contact for BRO security-related activities and communications with the Transportation Security Agency (TSA).
- Reviews all security-related functions to ensure compliance with 49 CFR 1542, its security program, and applicable security directives. Initiates corrective actions for any instance of non-compliance with CFR 1542, its security program, and applicable security directives.
- Authorizes and determines security clearances for airport users requesting access to the Security Identification Display Area and Sterile Area (SIDA).
- Manages, administers, and performs airport security and communications projects. Prepares and monitors budget for areas of responsibility.
- Resolves security-related issues from airport customers and tenants. Meets with airport tenants to explain airport security policies and procedures.
- Ensures availability of documents for review by Federal agencies, initiates corrective actions for failure to comply with CFR Part 1500, the Airport Security Program, and other security directives including 49 CFR Parts 1540 (Civil Aviation Security: General Rules).

Bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience, or associate’s degree plus four years of experience, or high school graduation or GED plus six years of experience.
Special Certifications & LicensesValid Texas Driver’s License. Ability to pass a personal, criminal and employment background check.
Independence & JudgementProficient level of judgment with planning, leading, organizing, recognizing, and resolving issues or problems; requires very little supervision.
Initiative & IngenuityGeneral guidelines: requires a lot of interpretation and non-standard responses to varied situations; have to figure out where to go for answers (not all sitting there in procedures manual); must take multiple factors into account; some control over priorities.
