Overview
Technician II at Transdev in Brownsville, TX. Diesel Technician responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining automotive engines across various vehicles and equipment to ensure safety, efficiency, and longevity of assets. Class A or B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire).
Sign-on bonus: $1,500 for applicants who already hold a CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements.
- Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers by performing limited repairs with moderate supervision on basic and advanced maintenance (replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, checking fluid levels, changing fluids and filters, lubricating components).
- Perform mechanical repairs under moderate supervision including brakes and brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs.
- Maintain records of all maintenance work, parts and supplies used; ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately; maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers.
- Assist Tech III with preventive maintenance (PMs), safety maintenance inspections, and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usage.
- Remove and replace engine, transmission and differential assemblies under Maintenance Technician III supervision.
- Diagnose and perform vehicle and equipment repairs under moderate supervision.
- Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective actions taken.
- Evaluate completed work prior to release and seek approval where required.
- Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.
- Repair and maintain shop equipment; clean vehicles as requested or required.
- Other responsibilities as requested or required.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
- Class A or B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire).
- Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
- Adhere to state DOT standards for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Intermediate problem-solving ability and computer skills.
- Comfortable using hand tools; strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; maintain an organized shop and clean work environment.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential; must ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers.
- Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory and maintain in a clean and safe manner.
- Subject to a DOT physical exam and DOT drug testing per DOT 49 CFR Part 40; prohibition of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana.
- Work outside in varying temperatures and weather conditions; 100% of the job is outdoors, with possible remote locations.
- Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently stand/walk; may navigate sloped, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
- Push/pull objects; lift up to 50 lbs; may bend, kneel, or crouch to reach equipment.
- Work around heavy traffic and exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
