Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. LVNs collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.

They interact effectively with patients and their significant others while maintaining professional nursing standards. LVNs provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients with predictable outcomes, based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

Due to the broad range of medical conditions encountered, LVNs must be well-versed in a wide variety of health conditions. They also have a professional obligation to participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives. LVNs must uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and practice within their defined scope of practice.



Job Requirements



Minimum Education

• Graduate of an approved LVN Program

• No previous experience required

• BLS – Must be completed prior to initiating patient contact
• Licensed Vocational Nurse – Active Texas LVN license required
• ACLS – Must be completed within 90 days of hire
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification – Must be completed within 90 days of hire

• Ability to input data into computer programs
• Familiarity with rehabilitation equipment
