District Support Pharmacist – CVS Health
Job Purpose and SummaryAt CVS Health, our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence within each pharmacy. They act as role models, demonstrate genuine care, and set the bar for the pharmacy team. DSPs cover pharmacist scheduling gaps and support pharmacy teams across the district, reporting to the Pharmacy Manager (PM) and Rx District Leader (DL). They are accountable for supporting the management, oversight, and operation of the pharmacy and pharmacy team.
Responsibilities- Live our purpose by improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator (DPC); oversee the pharmacy and serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts.
- Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and using safety guardrails at every workstation.
- Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, guiding the pharmacy team, and proactively resolving insurance and medication issues.
- Offer and deliver immunizations, supporting Pharmacy Technicians to learn to immunize.
- Manage pharmacy inventory, guiding the team in inventory best practices, especially for cold‑chain products.
- Maintain flexibility for scheduling and business needs while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
- Keep relevant clinical and technical skills current, pursuing training and CME opportunities.
- Provide pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services (e.g., COVID/Flu, Hormonal Contraception) where permissible.
- Understand and comply with federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, and adhere to CVS Health policies and procedures.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not listed on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
- Travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require.
- Maintain regular & predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Complete required training within the designated timeframe.

- Mobile and upright for extended periods.
- Lift up to 20 lbs frequently.
- Reach overhead, hand‑reach, and perform repetitive finger tasks.
- Maintain visual acuity for detailed work.
- Express or exchange ideas verbally when accurate instructions are needed.
- Receive detailed oral communication.
- Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
- 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
