Job Purpose And Summary

Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to deliver operational and service excellence. As a Technician, you will assist the pharmacy team in ensuring that prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and that patients receive caring service exceeding expectations. Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team by consistently applying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, and drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, creating personalized moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services where applicable.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership, such as accurately putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories, etc.
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and be receptive to feedback; actively seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntary travel to stores in the market to work shifts as needed by the business.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and optionally staffing off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
Immunization Support (if applicable)
  • Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparing and administering vaccines.
  • Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer vaccination questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Monitor for, respond to, and report adverse reaction events per public health requirements.
  • Review and collect patient information; track and document for each applicable patient.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, which includes but is not limited to age, education, licensure/certification.
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and focus: concentrate on a task over time, pivot quickly between tasks, confirm prescription information and label accuracy for patient safety.
  • Customer service and team orientation: look for ways to help people, respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Communication skills: use and understand verbal and written communication; active listening; ask questions as needed.
  • Mathematical reasoning: determine total tablets, day’s supply, number of bottles needed to fill a prescription.
  • Problem resolution: identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
  • Physical demands: ability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods, lift, scan, and bag items, reach overhead, manipulate small parts, lift up to 20 lbs as required, maintain visual acuity, and use spoken communication accurately.
  • Perform any additional tasks directed by Supervisor or Manager.
