Food Service Worker (late night shift, part-time)
Bowdoin College Dining Services seeks a part-time, entry-level Food Service Worker/Dining Assistant to support the Super Snack operation at Thorne Dining Hall, a late-night dining service for students. Located in Brunswick, Maine, Bowdoin College offers scratch cooking, its own butcher shop, bakeshop, and organic garden, supplying two dining halls and three retail locations.
Under supervision of dining supervisors and regular staff, this position is a part-time role with responsibilities below.
Responsibilities- Assisting with ingredient preparation for hot and cold foods, mindful of cross-contamination
- Assisting with servery set-up, service, and replenishment
- Following food handling and storage procedures; serving food with appropriate portion control
- Assisting in dishwashing tasks, including scraping, loading/unloading dish machines, and stacking clean dishware
- Assisting in sanitation duties for preparation stations, equipment, kitchen, dining areas, restrooms, walls, tables, chairs, and storage areas
- Assisting in daily operations and monitoring the dining hall’s checking systems
- Assisting in stocking the gluten-free area and organizing stocking inventory per standards
- Greeting and assisting dining service patrons
- Verifying student identification/board eligibility for meals and meal counts
- Providing coverage for front and back of the house as needed
- The hourly rate for this position is $18.40 per hour
- 10% Shift Differential for hours worked from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm
- 15% Shift Differential for hours worked from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am
- Super Snack Premium of $4.00 per hour for hours worked from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am
- Weekend Differential of $1.00 per hour for hours worked on Saturday and Sunday
- High school diploma or GED required
- Current Serv Safe certification or completion of online food safety course upon hire
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Dependability and punctuality
- Commitment to recycling and sustainability practices
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow written and verbal direction
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Working knowledge of good personal hygiene practices
- Entry-level position; no prior work experience required
- At least one year of experience in food production and/or ingredient preparation techniques and intermediate knife skills highly preferred

Standard Work Days and Hours- This is an onsite, part-time, non-benefit eligible position working less than 20 hours/week
- The Super Snack hours are 10:00 pm to 2:00 am
