About the role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a major digital transformation project within the Belgian healthcare sector.
You'll play a key role in the design, development and implementation of a modern cloud-based data platform that enables secure and reliable sharing of healthcare data between multiple organizations. Working closely with Data Architects, Functional Analysts and Project Managers, you'll contribute to building scalable data integration solutions, validation services and master data components while ensuring high standards of data quality, maintainability and performance.
This role combines hands-on Data Engineering with functional analysis, REST API development and Azure Databricks, offering the opportunity to work on a project with significant societal impact.
Responsibilities
Perform functional analysis and translate business and data requirements into technical solutions
Design, develop and maintain data hubs connected to multiple master and reference data sources
Build robust data integration solutions using Azure Databricks and Python
Develop and maintain REST APIs and connector services supporting data exchange, validation and platform integration
Design and implement data validation mechanisms to ensure high data quality across multiple external data sources
Develop, test, deploy and maintain scalable data engineering solutions
Troubleshoot production issues and provide ongoing maintenance and technical support
Produce clear technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Demonstrate solutions, conduct prototype reviews and provide user training where required
Work closely with Project Managers, Data Architects, Functional Analysts and business stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle
Contribute to Agile development practices and continuous improvement initiatives
Must-have requirements
Minimum 7 years of experience as a Data Engineer
Strong experience with the Microsoft BI stack, including SQL Server and SSIS
Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks
Strong Python development skills
Strong SQL Server development experience
Experience performing functional analysis and translating business requirements into technical solutions
Experience designing and developing enterprise data integration solutions
Experience working with Kimball dimensional modelling principles
Experience working in Agile environments
Fluent in Dutch or French with a passive knowledge of the other national language, as well as English
Nice to have:
REST API development
Master Data Management (MDM)
Data Quality and Validation frameworks
Azure Dev Ops and CI/CD
Experience working within enterprise or public sector environments
