Overview
The primary role of a Head Start Floater is to provide support and assistance to teachers and staff within the program. They "float" between different classrooms or areas as needed to help maintain a smooth and effective operation of the program.
Responsibilities- Assisting Teachers:
Floaters work alongside teachers to support them in various aspects of their duties, including helping with classroom activities, preparing materials, supervising children, and implementing lesson plans. - Supervising Children:
Floaters are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the children in the program, supervising during playtime, meals, and other activities. - Classroom Maintenance:
Help maintain a clean and organized classroom, ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are readily available. - Behavioral Support:
Help manage children's behavior using positive discipline techniques and promote a positive learning atmosphere. - Individualized Attention:
Provide one-on-one attention to children who may need extra help or support with certain activities. - Transition Assistance:
Assist children during transitions between activities (e.g., from playtime to group circle time). - Communication:
Relay information about children's progress, behavior, and concerns to other staff members. - Flexibility:
Be adaptable and willing to move between classrooms or assist with various tasks as needed. - Safety and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper sanitation and emergency procedures. - Parental Involvement:
Collaborate with parents or guardians during drop-off and pick-up times and provide updates on their child's day and progress. - Program Variability:
Responsibilities may vary depending on the program model, site needs, and locations.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Minimum of a high school diploma/GED
- Willingness to obtain Child Development Associate (CDA) program and/or Infant Toddler Certificate within BVCAP time guidelines in accordance with Federal Head Start Performance Standard 1302.91(e)(3)
- Ability to work in a team environment with a diverse population
- Complete and maintain annual training hour requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus
- Knowledgeable in computer skills, word processing, and e-mail
- Must have a valid license
- Must be able to obtain CPR & First Aid certification within 30 days of employment
- Position is contingent upon successful completion of a federal background check
