Poultry Processing Supervisor at Wayne Farms
Primary FunctionThe Poultry Processing Supervisor supervises production line/department personnel to ensure all procedures are followed in compliance with Company policies (i.e. HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, etc.) and Federal and State regulations (i.e. USDA, OSHA, etc.) while achieving the highest level of productivity and maintaining customer specifications and satisfaction.
Responsibilities- Manage production line or department by establishing and adjusting procedures to meet production schedules, increase efficiencies and meet or exceed budget objectives.
- Deploy and rotate personnel to optimize efficiency and facilitate ergonomics to meet schedules.
- Ensure daily reporting is accurately completed (departmental reports, attendance, yields, etc.).
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process optimisation (throughput, waste reduction, product quality, ergonomics) and/or reduce/eliminate repeat deficiencies.
- Lead or participate in planning and implementation of process improvements, monitor improvement metrics and respond to unfavorable trends.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure a food safe and sanitary environment per USDA requirements.
- Mentor, coach and cross‑train employees, encouraging career development and providing consistent feedback.
- Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions fairly and consistently.
- Follow and promote all safety initiatives, ensuring appropriate PPE use to support a zero‑accident culture.
- Work collaboratively with other departments/shifts to meet or exceed goals.
- Adhere to current Union negotiated contract if applicable.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Supervises up to 100 employees.
- Leader of People role with required competencies: sizing up people, delegation, planning, customer focus, and conflict management.
- High School diploma or equivalent;
Associate’s degree with relevant college coursework preferred.
- At least 1 year within a manufacturing setting; 3 years in food manufacturing or poultry industry preferred.
- At least 1 year of leadership experience (policy adherence, timekeeping, conflict resolution); 3 years preferred.
- Working knowledge of poultry processing, food safety regulations, OSHA guidelines, GMP and HACCP.
- Effective communication in English (verbal and written); bilingual preferred.
- Strong attention to detail; organizational skills; ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects.
- Proficient computer and math skills.
- Self‑starter with initiative and sense of urgency in a fast‑paced environment.
- Follow and enforce departmental and company safety policies and programs.
- Wear required protective equipment where mandatory.
- Work non‑standard or extended shifts including nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
- Exposure to noise (>85 decibels), CO₂, and moving production.
- Move throughout shift; exposure to heat (99ºF) and cold (45ºF), wet/dusty environment, raw animal odors.
