ResponsibilitiesPerform and analyze clinical laboratory tests within the scope of licensure across all laboratory disciplines by standard operating policies and procedures. Understand method principles, execute quality control, perform preventative maintenance, review and analyze results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
Core Duties and Responsibilities- Process and analyze samples in a timely and orderly fashion, maintaining productivity and accurate identification.
- Set up, run, maintain, and adjust laboratory instruments per policies and procedures.
- Execute quality control in all technical areas and follow infection control procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as needed.
- Complete forms and report findings to nurses and/or physicians.
- Collaborate with other healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret patient lab results.
- Perform routine and basic laboratory testing within a designated area.
- Recognize testing inconsistency and take corrective action.
- Maintain all patient and specimen records accurately, neatly, and legibly.
- Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines for a safe environment.
- Maintain compliance with hospital and departmental policies for safety, security, and infection control.
- Communicate with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff professionally.
- Requires strength/stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, carrying equipment.
- May sit for extended periods.
- Work around strong or unpleasant odors.
- May be exposed to agents that could cause serious disease.
- Able to multitask and handle stressful situations.
- Able to communicate effectively.
- Team player with supervisors and staff.
- Basic computer skills.
- Associate of Science (AAS) in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or Science.
- Current licensure as required by the state where services will be provided.
- State licenses: WV – Medical Laboratory Technician License or Trainee License; PA, MD, OH – no license issued.
- Preferred:
Credential as MLT through ASCP or AMT.
- Experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
Shift: Night (USA).
Hours:
40 hours per week.
Exempt/Non‑Exempt:
Non‑Exempt.
Cost Center: 112 STJ Clinical Labs.
