Overview
The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Professional (NP or PA) to join the team eph's Hospital. This role provides coordination and clinical skills for the comprehensive management of emergency medicine patients, coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams, directs care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, coordinates discharge planning, and participates in education of residents and students.

Responsibilities- Manages comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and their families, coordinating hospitalization if necessary.
- Completes pre-procedure evaluations and integrated assessments.
- Follows established clinical guidelines and protocols to order tests or consults as appropriate.
- Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests within scope of practice.
- Consults with DEM clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings; documents findings in the medical record.
- Facilitates discharge planning and coordination of services for outpatient follow-up as applicable.
- Develops comprehensive, individualized plans of care and educates patients, families, and staff; participates in education of residents and students.
- Identifies unstable or complex emergency medicine patient care situations and initiates appropriate interventions.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, diagnostic reasoning, and patient-centered decision making across the age continuum.
- Utilizes equipment safely and bases actions on scientific principles and established standards of care.
- Educates staff and participates in program development, quality improvement, and inter-disciplinary collaboration.
- Maintains documentation of care, interventions, and evaluations in the patient record following hospital policies.
- Participates in committees, research, and implementation of practice changes to improve patient outcomes.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner
- Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- National certification by a recognized APRN certification center.
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a RN/APRN in West Virginia.
- American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certification required.
Experience
- Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred.
- Eligible new graduates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- ACNP or FNP considered.
- American Heart Association PALs certification encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree as a Medical/Surgical PA required.
- Graduate of an ARC-PA approved PA training program.
- Masters-level education as Medical/Surgical PA preferred.
- PALs certification encouraged.
Heavy/physical work involving lifting, standing, walking, and patient handling. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
Working Environment- Work with others; protracted or irregular hours.
- Exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases.
- Work around equipment with electrical hazards.
- Proficiency with computers and strong communication skills.
