MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
- 1. Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians - OH:
Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology - PA:
No state license is required - WV:
Radiography License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board

- 2. Registered in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- 3. Registered in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
- 4. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
- 5. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas
- One (1) year of experience as a mammography technologist.
- 1. Plans the performance of the imaging procedure based on needs of the patient (to include all exams within job scope).
- 2. Works to continually develop skill sets and become competent in ALL exams within job scope defined by leadership.
- 3. Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
- 4. Positions and compresses the patient accurately for procedure and fully images all breast tissue.
- 5. Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.
- 6. Evaluates images for compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression and absence of image artifact. Assures proper patient identification appears on every image.
- 7. Educates patient regarding mammographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
- 8. Documents imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates.
- 9. Engages in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical and support personnel throughout the hospital.
- 10. Performs a full range of mammographic imaging quality control tests in accordance with the manufacturer and documents them in the Mammography Quality Control Track module.
- 11. Displays imaging techniques, patient care and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies, Mammography, State and Federal Regulations, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
- 12. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
- 13. Maintains clean, neat and well stocked procedure area.
- 14. Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals and sterile trays and devices for invasive mammographic procedures.
- 15. Maintains MQSA compliance.
- 1. Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.
- 2. Stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day.
- 3. Lift, push and pull up to 10 pounds of weight.
- 4. Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
- 1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; airborne particles; body fluids; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock.
- 1. Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
- 2. Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
The Mammography Technologist Clinical Ladder is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality imaging care, and improve job satisfaction for mammography technologists.
To apply for the next level, the mammography technologist must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level.
Level 1- No experience required.
- All mammography technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one.
- Meets requirements for previous level.
- One year of experience.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1.
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Three years of experience.
- Compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Five years of experience.
- Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 5 additional skill sets
