MLA Lead

The FMHS MLA lead (0.2

FTE) will join the Clinical teaching team and participate in the design, delivery and quality control of MLA focused activity in the curriculum.

The role is responsible for linking the regulatory requirements of the MLA into teaching practice, analysing gaps and supporting students MLA preparation within the schools educational strategy.

Engage in effective and professional communication with academic and administrative colleagues in the University and externally.

Disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences using appropriate media and methods to promote understanding.

Writes research papers, journal articles and materials for publication.

Have significant input to the design and implementation of written course materials and guides.

Provide regular updates to the Undergraduate Clinical Education Lead on operational issues and teaching delivery.

Collaborate with colleagues in the school on course development, delivery, and assessment, taking on appropriate management and administrative responsibilities.

Support colleagues contributing to teaching across the programme and LEP sites.

Foster a collaborative teaching environment across.

Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in teaching delivery.

Maintain relationships to facilitate collaboration, share best practices, and address teaching and learning needs.

Attend meetings and participate in other committees and working groups as required.

Liaise with the Undergraduate Clinical Education Lead , Phase 2 leads, Assessment Lead and other Curriculum Leads to ensure coordination across the programme.

Work collaboratively with other Curriculum Leads to ensure consistency of student experience across the programme.

Contribute to the delivery of MLA preparation session, up to a typical total lecture contribution of approximately 45 lectures per annum for 1.0

FTE.

Contribute to item writing, standard setting and marking of assessments in the medical school.

Coordinate the production of relevant curriculum materials in a timely fashion.

Liaise with other curriculum leads to ensure integration of curriculum delivery.

Support the planning and scheduling of teaching activities across the programme to ensure appropriate coverage and integration of curriculum content.

Ensure that teaching activities are delivered in accordance with programme timelines.

Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery.

Actively seek to enhance student learning through innovation and continuous improvement.

Respond proactively to operational challenges affecting the student cohorts.

Monitor delivery of the MLA focused sessions, both formally through the preparation of quality reports and informally, and deal with any issues as they arise.

Analyse feedback from students and staff to inform improvements in teaching delivery.

Contribute to programme evaluation and curriculum review processes.

Work to achieve a high level of precision and accuracy in all aspects of the role.

Keep up to date with new technologies and approaches that support day to day activities.

Balance pressures of teaching, research, and administrative demands.

Uses PC or laptop and other presentation/audio-visual equipment.

Manage competing demands associated with academic leadership, teaching and administrative responsibilities.

Act as a personal tutor in the undergraduate Medical School.

Working with academic support, provide advice on study skills and help students with learning problems, as required.

Report to the Concerns Group any student obviously experiencing problems during the unit.

Help shape an environment where less experienced colleagues can learn and develop.

Engage in continuous professional development.

Support staff development through mentoring, feedback and performance review processes.

Teach as a member of a teaching team and deliver high quality undergraduate level learning.
