Color Guard Instructor @ Buena Park High School
Buena Park High School is seeking a qualified Head Color Guard Instructor to lead and develop all aspects of the color guard program. This is a key leadership role within the Band Program, responsible for creating choreography, teaching foundational skills, and mentoring students throughout the marching band and independent winter guard season.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction and Design
- Develop and teach choreography for flag, rifle, and movement in coordination with the field show and the independent winter guard show.
- Lead rehearsals that to develop and improve individual skills.
- Set high standards for performers
- Collaborate with staff to ensure seamless integration of show elements.
- Provide input on show design, costuming, and visual concepts.
Student Engagement
- Foster an inclusive, positive environment that supports student growth and well-being.
- Offer regular feedback to students and encourage leadership development within the section.
- Assist with recruitment and retention of members through outreach and mentorship.
Administrative Duties
- Attend band camp, weekly rehearsals, and competitions.
- Develop plan for for the independent winter guard season.Band Director will take as much of the administrative duties off of the workload of the Color Guard Instructor, while still allowing the Instructor full control of the Color Guard Unit.
Required:
- Experience teaching or leading color guard units in a scholastic, independent, and/or collegiate setting.
- Strong choreography background across multiple equipment types and movement styles.
- Ability to manage student groups and collaborate effectively with staff and administration.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with WGI adjudication criteria and safety standards.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Band Camp: 7/24-25 & 7/28-8/1
- Field Show Rehearsals: Tuesday & Thursday, 5:30p - 8:30p
