Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a Long-term Contract position based in Illinois. This opportunity is well suited for an entry- to mid-level candidate who enjoys working across payables, reconciliations, and general bookkeeping activities in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate brings practical accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining accuracy.

Responsibilities:

- Manage invoice processing, payment tracking, and other accounts payable activities to help ensure timely and accurate disbursements.

- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain reliable financial records.

- Review and process employee expense submissions in accordance with company policies and documentation standards.

- Administer corporate card payment workflows, including verification, coding, and reconciliation of transactions.

- Prepare journal entries and support general ledger maintenance to keep accounting records current and organized.

- Assist with routine bookkeeping tasks and month-end close support as needed by the accounting team.

- Work within accounting platforms such as Epicor, Net Suite, Quick Books, or comparable systems to complete daily financial processes.

- Contribute to tax-related accounting support, including assistance with corporate tax return documentation when required. Requirements - 2-4 years of experience in accounting, accounts payable, bookkeeping, or a related finance function.

- At least 1 year of hands-on experience supporting accounts payable or bookkeeping processes.

- Some formal education in accounting is preferred; an accounting degree is helpful but not mandatory.

- Intermediate Excel skills, including the ability to use functions such as VLOOKUP and create pivot tables.

- Working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, reconciliations, and invoice processing.

- Familiarity with accounting software such as Epicor, Net Suite, Quick Books, or similar financial systems.

- Strong attention to detail, adaptability, and a motivated approach to managing multiple priorities.
