Performs manual and clerical duties related to storing, issuing, and delivering a variety of materials, equipment, and supplies.

Incumbents perform many of the same duties as a Materials Handler Assistant but are distinguished in that incumbent’s exercise decision making and independent judgement due to a broader knowledge of the materials handling operation and provide on the job training and problem resolution to others. Incumbents may be responsible for a higher volume, high dollar amount and/or be assigned responsibility over one or more specified areas.

Incumbents are expected to handle high-dollar cost and fragile equipment or supplies and hazardous materials, such as chemicals or gases, when necessary. May be required to lift heavy objects.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  Technical associate’s degree; 3 – 6 years of work-related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Counts, weighs, or measures incoming or outgoing items to compare identifying information and variety against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
• Transport material from receiving areas to storage locations or designated areas.
• Understanding warehouse locations and inventory systems.
• Providing needed parts to assembly cells.
• Monitor stock levels and report low inventory to management.
• Perform cycle counts and enter results in ERP system.
• Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move stock or reorganize storage.
• Knowledge of automated or computerized system operation.
• Knowledge of record keeping practices.
• Knowledge of safety practices.
• Skill in lifting heavy packages and objects.
• Utilizes computerized or automated systems to accomplish tasks.
• Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
• Ability to follow instructions, and management directive.
• Ensure a safe working environment, good housekeeping and 5’s for your respective area and all VBI.
