D’Youville University’s proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine seeking accreditation, located in Buffalo, NY, invites applications for a Full-time Faculty in Pharmacology. The selected candidate is responsible for delivery of all instruction in Pharmacology to osteopathic medical students, and compliance with requirements and policies of the proposed COM. The Faculty in Pharmacology will participate primarily in teaching osteopathic medical students, research and scholarly activity, and service to the university and greater community.
They will work closely with other faculty members in Preclinical and Clinical Education. The selected candidate is expected to start immediately. Classes will be an eclectic mix of didactics, learning in small groups, and self-directed learning. D’Youville University has a highly reputed School of Pharmacy on campus, in addition to many graduate programs in the health professions and a Center for Doctoral Studies & Research.
Instruction will include General Pharmacology, as well as Systems-based and Clinical Pharmacology.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the Associate Deans, Chairs and Faculty in Pre-clinical and Clinical education in developing, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum for Pharmacology, primarily as part of the Preclinical curriculum in the first two years of medical school
- Assumes responsibility of the delivery of the course curriculum in Pharmacology; ensures excellence in instructing osteopathic medical students; participates in the creation of an Osteopathic Medicine Center of Excellence
- Participates actively in research and other scholarly activity; publications and presentations involving students are strongly encouraged; collaborates with other departments and faculty regarding research projects
- Mentors and advises students in a group and individually; besides the preclinical years, continues instruction in all four years of the medical curriculum, as required
- Continuously works for student improvement, preparing students for the COMLEX exams, and laying a strong foundation for osteopathic medical education
- Leads student assessment and evaluation and helps in remedial intervention for students who need it
- Collaborates with other departments and faculty in the proposed medical school and university as required
- Participates in committees to enhance academics in the COM, as instructed by the Dean
- Follows all safety and departmental protocols and is up to date with training requirements
- Is a role model for osteopathic medical students, faculty, the university, and the community
- Provides service to the COM, university, and greater community
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
- DO or MD;
Pharm
D or PhD in a related specialty may be considered if the candidate has significant experience in teaching medical students and in research/scholarly activity - At least 3 years’ experience instructing osteopathic medical students or other health professional or graduate level students in large and small-group settings
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience and comfort with delivering lectures as well as facilitating small-group discussions
- Experience and eagerness in research and scholarly activity; developing research projects involving students
- Record of publications or other scholarly activity
• Understands and works with the humanistic values of the COM and university
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Mental/Visual Demand and Physical Effort.
- For a normal office environment, you must be able to lift 50lbs from floor level.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver normal size full file box for archival purposes.
- Must be able to occasionally bend, twist, and stoop.
- Frequent typing of computer keyboard.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as computer, mobile device, phone, copier, scanner, printer, or related items.
- May be called upon to work beyond the normal workday.
- Must have good personal hygiene and adhere to corporate dress policy (business casual).
