Responsibilities
  • Paraprofessional Staff (Community Assistants, Student Assistants):
    Provide orientation, training, supervision, and regular evaluation of approximately 10‑12 Community Assistants, and in‑direct supervision of other student staff such as College Work Study, Student Assistants.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of Paraprofessional Staff and other student staff.
  • Conduct bi‑weekly meetings with individual Paraprofessional Staff to develop and review goals/outcomes, discuss concerns, recognize contributions, provide and solicit feedback.
  • Assess skills and development of Paraprofessional Staff while providing experiences, opportunities, and training that challenge and support their growth.
  • Attend all departmental and divisional training sessions and workshops, planning and facilitating training sessions for the complex and departmental staff as required.
  • Serve as a facilitator/instructor for the Paraprofessional Staff Leadership Class (as needed).
  • Graduate Professional Staff (Assistant Complex Director/ACD):
    Provide orientation, training, supervision, and regular evaluation of one Assistant Complex Director.
  • Participate in the ACD recruitment and selection process.
  • Conduct weekly individual meetings with the ACD to develop and review goals/outcomes and discuss in‑hall programming.
  • Assess skills and development of the ACD while providing opportunities for training that challenge and support growth.
  • Staff Supervision of one to two Administrative Staff:
    Provide orientation, supervision, and assist in training and evaluation.
  • Participate in the administrative staff selection process.
  • Manage daily operation of the apartment complex office point of service.
  • Attend departmental meetings on a weekly/biweekly basis, including Residential Life sessions, In‑Hall Staff meetings, Area Professional Staff meetings, meetings with Assistant Director and Assistant Hall Director, committee meetings, and meetings with Paraprofessional staff.
  • Prepare end‑of‑semester and end‑of‑year reports in December and May.
  • Maintain general availability during most business hours, with evening commitments for staff meetings, hall council and program attendance.
  • Use computer programs, including Star Rez (housing software), Microsoft Office Suite, eRezLife, Maxient, OnGuard, EMS, and UB Linked.
  • Coordinate staff programming efforts in conjunction with the residential curriculum and community development.
  • Encourage staff and students to plan and develop programs that meet the diverse needs of the residential student population.
  • Supervise the in‑hall departmental programming model: approve program proposals, provide feedback, and track program requirements.
  • Participate in the development and execution of educational strategies as part of the residential curriculum.
  • Conduct outreach to designated students for academic interventions.
  • Manage one‑on‑one meetings between Paraprofessional staff and their residents 1‑2 times a semester.
  • Work with faculty and staff to develop community‑specific programs/initiatives in Living Learning Communities.
  • Maintain communication with campus partners to ensure programmatic needs are met.
  • Complete area‑wide learning outcome driven programs.
  • Facilitate programs and training sessions on social justice and inclusivity.
  • Carry a cell phone provided by the department and participate in the rotating “on‑duty” system, responding to emergencies on evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain a 15‑minute radius of the duty area while on‑duty and provide coverage during times when the university is closed.
  • Respond to crisis or emergency situations using departmental protocol, providing guidance to staff and students, followed by appropriate post‑crisis referrals and student follow‑up.
  • Diffuse roommate conflicts.
  • Serve as the hall’s primary community standards officer: meet with students in violation of Campus Living rules, adjudicate cases, sanction students, and maintain conduct records.
