Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Teacher – Buffalo, NY
The Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Teacher will provide IEP‑mandated orientation and mobility services to students with visual impairments, enabling them to travel safely and independently within their school and community environments. Services will be delivered across Buffalo Public Schools, charter schools, and non‑public schools located within the City of Buffalo.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver direct O&M instruction to students as per IEP or 504 plan requirements.
- Travel between assigned school sites to serve approximately 20 students across multiple locations.
- Complete and maintain required documentation, including IEPs, Student Intervention Records, progress monitoring, and annual progress summaries, using the district’s Frontline system.
- Collect and report attendance and progress data in accordance with district requirements.
- Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and evaluations.
- Maintain compliance with NYSED Part 200 Regulations and district data‑sharing policies.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and other service providers to support student goals.
- Services provided at up to 15 Buffalo Public Schools, charter schools, and non‑public schools.
- Travel between schools is required; travel costs included in the hourly/session rate.
- Must perform services on‑site during the school year and extended year (summer program if mandated by IEP).
Typical school‑day schedule: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Flexible scheduling required to meet individual student IEP mandates. Some after‑school hours may be required for evaluations or meetings.
Hourly Rate / Compensation- $65 per hour (all‑inclusive; covers instruction, travel, paperwork, consultation, and supervision).
- Session‑based billing: 30‑minute, 45‑minute, or 60‑minute increments as mandated by IEP.
- Separate evaluation rate: $120 per evaluation (includes report preparation).
- No additional charges for travel, cancellations, or paperwork.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field.
- ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or equivalent NYSED credential.
- Experience working with children who are blind or visually impaired, preferably in schools.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel across Buffalo.
