Teacher for Building Brighter Futures

Hiring for School Year. 1,000 positions open.
Location &
Hours:
- Elmwood Village Charter School – 3:15 pm to 6:00 pm
- Buffalo United Charter School – 2:15 pm to 5:15 pm
Employment details:
- Per Diem position
- FLSA Status:
Non‑Exempt - Starting rate: $25 per hour
- Part‑time,
Entry level
- Cooperate with school staff and Site Coordinator regarding academic curriculum and information.
- Plan, implement and assist in high‑quality educational activities for participants for an average of 10‑15 hours a week during the program year.
- Provide and engage students in the after‑school program with a planned academic curriculum.
- Set rules and expectations with students.
- Provide and maintain a learning environment that is safe, comfortable and encourages learning.
- Monitor the alignment of curriculum goals and objectives with the academic segment of the after‑school program.
- Provide alternative activities, worksheets, projects and tasks for students to complete before the end of program.
- Track academic progress of enrolled students including homework, behavior and grades.
- Communicate any needs, issues or positive feedback to the Site Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Schedule and assigned duties are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the clients we serve.
- Knowledge of academic objectives and program goals in the Building Brighter Futures after‑school program.
- Adequate knowledge of the BPS curriculum.
- Demonstrated record of effective academic results with academically challenged students.
- Recognized interest in developing authentic and meaningful professional relationships with youth who struggle academically.
- Demonstrated record of improved academic results for students in current assignment.
- Willingness to work with the lowest 50% of the student population.
- Availability between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm dependent on location.
- Non‑building staff members typically arrive 30–60 minutes before the after‑school program begins (program hours vary by each school site).
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, education, human services or a related field (master’s preferred).
- New York State Teacher certification (preferred).
- Two years direct experience working with children preferably in an educational setting.
- Pay commensurate with education and licensing/certifications.
