This position is for a short‑term 7th‑grade science position.

Our school days run from 6:50 AM to 2:30 PM, with one day a week until 4:00 PM for planning.

REACH is a family‑like atmosphere – we celebrate events together and often surprise staff with lunches or tokens of appreciation.

We offer a competitive salary scale higher than most local districts. The starting salary for a first‑year teacher with no prior experience begins at $45,000, with valid teaching certification. Teachers working toward certification start at $40,000. Salary increases with years of experience, up to 10 years of credit.

REACH pays 80% of health, dental and vision coverage; employees pay 20%. We pay 100% of life insurance and long‑term disability coverage. We participate in the NYS Teachers Retirement System, offer Paid Family Leave benefits, cover all student and teacher supplies, and offer a 403(b) plan.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare lesson plans that engage, stimulate and instruct students.
  • Instruct students based on the REACH curriculum and use available instructional technologies in the classroom.
  • Regularly evaluate student performance and monitor for achievement of state standards.
  • Act as a role model, motivating students while maintaining approachability.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about child performance, track progress, and keep records up to date for progress reports and report‑card conferences.
  • Provide a classroom management plan ensuring safety at all times.
  • Execute daily lesson plans for all assigned blocks.
  • Implement all REACH routines and procedures with fidelity.
  • Submit lesson plans and unit plans in a timely manner.
  • Instruct scholars according to the curriculum developed by REACH Academy Charter School.
  • Actively participate in professional development, coaching sessions, and weekly team planning.
  • Incorporate feedback from coaches promptly.
  • Analyze scholar data and engage in self‑reflection on teaching practices.
  • Prepare scholars for the NYS Science exam.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications /

Education and/or Experience

Preferred but not required: teachers hold a NYS professional teaching certificate in the subject area or be eligible for reciprocity. Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree in the subject area (master's preferred), proven track‑record of high classroom achievement and accountability, alignment with REACH Academy Charter School core beliefs and educational philosophy, and valid New York State certification, except where the Head of School permits an exception under applicable laws.

Salary

In accordance with REACH Academy Charter School's salary step scale, step 1 starts at $45,000 and step 11 at $65,830. A valid teaching certificate is required to begin on the salary steps, or the teacher must be working toward certification. Entitlement to benefits commences after 40 school days of teaching completed.
