Application EngineerThe role is based in the Buffalo, NY area within our Aftermarket business. Your responsibilities include developing proposals, assessing customer needs, recommending appropriate products and services, providing post‑sale technical support, and troubleshooting technical problems.
What Will You Do?- Review and analyze customer requirements for application of products and recommend a suitable product selection
- Act as liaison between engineering and sales representatives regarding specific product applications, product design improvements, and possible product development ideas
- Provide technical assistance, information, support, and guidance to customers and sales representatives to maximize sales volume, earnings, market penetration of products, and effective relationships with customers
- Provide input for proposal, data packages, and product and parts pricing proposals
- Ensure proposals are consistent with quotes, review for accuracy, and edit for correct spare parts and data listed
- Maintain the required level of proficiency in application engineering skills, plus the use of Application Engineering tools
- Engage with all businesses and functions to promote and sustain a continuous improvement culture within the organization
- Represent the Company with customers and business partners
- Continually gather critical site information about Howden installed base, collect it for the CRM system, and use it to prospect for additional opportunities
- Prepare all required documents for handover meetings in accordance with, and in support of, MS Dynamics AX
- BS in Engineering or another related field
- A minimum of 2 years applicable experience including selection and costing, preferably with rotating equipment or nuclear projects
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Customer focus while balancing Howden and the customer’s interests during disputes
- Logical problem‑solving skills, outstanding organizational skills, and dedication to quality and integrity
- Decision‑making skills, including knowledge of varying decision‑making styles and appropriateness of each
- The ability to interact with diverse global cultures and demonstrate effective communication skills with associates, suppliers, and customers in a variety of business functions
- The positive attitude, ethics, and values necessary to support the company's mission and high‑performance culture
- Drive, style, and intellect required to make an immediate contribution and to grow with the organization and role
- Negotiation skill: can negotiate skillfully, both internally and externally, win concessions without damaging relationships, and gain trust of other parties
- Strong communication skills to interface with internal personnel and external customers

Salary: $69,000 - $80,000
