WSP is initiating a search for a full-time Early Career Structural Engineer for our Buffalo, NY office. Be involved in projects with our Northeast Transportation Team and help a growing organization meet clients' objectives and solve their challenges.
Role involves providing local technical assistance for design, development, and construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic research, design, concept development, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. Generate accurate and concise documentation and ensure responsibilities are delivered with quality that meets industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.
Responsibilities- Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Assist with performing basic professional structural engineering work related to researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality for end-users, systems, and infrastructure.
- Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance to secure structural soundness from loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and work site logs.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures including data collection, documentation, engineering studies, surveys, and construction.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures in decision-making.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
- Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with process and concepts for design/build.
- Familiarity with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, and as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., Micro Station, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, Geo Slope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Prior internship related to the degree and discipline.
- Active participation in local professional practice organizations.

CompensationExpected Salary: $58,200 - $91,900
