YourImpact
- Provide transmission line design and engineering consulting services to major power and energy utility clients, independent power producers, and energy project developers.
- Design electrical transmission facilities including line layout, foundations, structure configuration, structures, insulation and conductor specification.
- Prepare project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
- Deliver substations and control houses designs that meet industry standards and good engineering practice with constructability considerations.
- Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
- Resolve site queries, attend site meetings and perform site inspections during construction.
- Maintain project documentation for substation design and construction, including completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
- Make and maintain commitments to project teams and coordinate design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.
- Maintain good working relationships with internal groups, material suppliers, contractors, and others affecting quality, schedule and cost.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data relating to substation components, equipment specifications for procurement packages, IFR/IRC design and review processes, and IEEE/NESC Standards/NERC regulations.
- Participate in incorporating future-ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and design requirements with equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, conduit and trenching design strategies for safety and functionality.
- Support senior engineers with research and recommendations of components identified in design requirements and field equipment applications.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance modifications, and construction procedures.
- Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits and controls, facility and electrical service, and power distribution.
- Prepare data visualizations and reports for interpretation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Contribute to technical reports and presentations that explain findings to address design and electrical engineering issues.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain information on design and construction problems and plan for future needs.
- Collaborate with other engineers and disciplines on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities on funded improvement and development projects.
- Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in Civil, Electrical, or related Engineering field from a recognized institution.
- 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in electrical engineering designing transmission lines in utility or industrial/commercial environments.
