Pricing Actuary
Location:
Buffalo, NY. Hybrid work schedule: 8 full days per month in the office, remaining days at home or in the office.
The Pricing Actuary will join a dedicated actuarial team and be responsible for pricing functions and oversight of the actuarial pricing team, ensuring pricing recommendations are timely, compliant with Actuarial Standards of Practice, and aligned with company objectives. The role involves coordinating with product partners on pricing proposals, leading and developing analysts, and maintaining rigorous documentation and communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage engagement with Product Management to develop pricing proposals, including providing rate indications, impact analysis, and filing support.
- Oversee pricing analysts’ day‑to‑day workflow, providing support, training, and feedback on technical pricing work.
- Create and enhance rate indications for all products, following generally accepted actuarial principles and company standards.
- Update key assumptions used in pricing indications, such as internal and external frequency, severity trends, and expense and profitability inputs.
- Manage the rate review schedule and state/product filings.
- Direct the evaluation and implementation of new products and class‑plans.
- Proactively communicate with product managers, regional managers, and senior management to ensure pricing adequacy.
- Oversee documentation and communication related to pricing procedures.
- 4‑year degree in mathematics, actuarial science, finance, economics, or equivalent experience.
- Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS).
- 5+ years of Property and Casualty (P&C) actuarial experience.
- Preferred: prior supervisory experience.
- Experience with SQL or similar programming.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Experience with Radial or other rate making and modeling software.
- Exceptional organization, verbal and written communication skills.
Estimated salary range: $100,000 - $140,000, plus equity and a comprehensive benefits package.
