Location & Compensation
Buffalo Public Schools, charter schools, and non-public schools (multiple sites within Buffalo). Pay rate: $65 per hour.
Position SummaryThe Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (VRT) will provide IEP-mandated vision rehabilitation therapy to students with visual impairments, fostering independent living skills, adaptive strategies, and effective use of assistive technology. This role supports students in achieving greater independence and participation both in school and daily life activities, while working collaboratively with educators, specialists, and families.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver individualized and group vision rehabilitation therapy in accordance with students’ IEP requirements.
- Assess functional vision and develop training plans to enhance independent living and school participation.
- Provide instruction in assistive technology, adaptive daily living skills, personal care, communication, and mobility techniques.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including IEP entries, progress monitoring reports, and evaluation summaries, via Frontline (IEP Direct).
- Collaborate with Orientation & Mobility (O&M) teachers, classroom staff, families, and school administrators.
- Ensure all services comply with NYSED Part 200 Regulations and district data requirements.
- Services provided across multiple Buffalo school sites (public, charter, and non-public).
- On-site services required during the regular school year and extended school year (summer program, if mandated by IEP).
- Typical hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM (flexibility required to meet student needs). - Occasional after-school time for IEP meetings or evaluations.
- Travel between schools required; travel expenses included in hourly/session rate.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy or related field.
- ACVREP Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) or equivalent NYSED credential.
- Experience working with children who are blind or visually impaired.
- Proficiency in assistive technology and adaptive living strategies.
- Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
