Responsibilities
- Monitor the campus wired and wireless networks and communication systems, including edge and core switches, wireless infrastructure, VoIP infrastructure, copper cable, and fiber optic plant.
- Diagnose, anticipate, and troubleshoot failures as they arise and prioritize problems when multiple events occur simultaneously.
- Document solutions and communicate status to colleagues, management, and user communities during outage periods.
- Self-assign tickets from the queue for service requests, including expanding wired switching equipment, wireless coverage, and standard adds/moves/changes to the campus phone system.
- Perform switch installations and upgrades related to projects or expansions.
- Collaborate with engineers to develop the upgrade process and evaluate new software.
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards and best practices in networking and improve skills in networking and associated technologies.
