Operations Manager
Our client is a well-established, trenchless solutions provider for clients ranging from utility companies, municipalities, developers, contractors and plumbers across the globe. They’re manufacturers of thrust boring tools, pipe-bursting equipment, pneumatic/hydraulic trenchless machinery, and distribution of electronic locating/instrumentation—are seeking a hands‑on, accountable Director of Operations to lead all daily operational activities.
The Director of Operations will be responsible for leading, managing, and growing this platform with the specific goal of doubling revenue while maintaining profitability. Core strategic objectives initially will revolve around expanding the sales force and adding new products to their line card.
This leader will translate company strategy into clear operational plans, hold employees accountable to expectations, and ensure the efficient, high‑quality production of mechanical and distribution of electronic equipment. The role requires strong leadership, process discipline, and a continuous improvement mindset to support growth in the underground utility, water/wastewater, and construction markets.
Core Deliverables:- Provide structure, leadership, and operational efficiency to day‑to‑day workflows across two northeast locations.
- Add a minimum of 3 resale/distributable products that each reach a run rate of $1m of yearly sales, by 2027.
- Support sales managers to hire a minimum of 3 new sales reps to expand coverage in existing territories in the northeast.
- 2028 revenue target of $12m revenue with 12% EBITDA or operating margins.
Strategic & Day-to-Day Operational Leadership
- Oversee all daily operations, including distribution sales, mechanical assembly, electronics bench work, equipment repairs, inventory management, warehousing, shipping/receiving, and facilities.
- Hold employees accountable to performance standards, quality requirements, job responsibilities, and daily/weekly deliverables.
- Convert strategic goals into clear operational plans with measurable KPIs for each department.
- Monitor workflow, address daily issues promptly, enforce standards consistently, and maintain a safe, organized environment.
- Maintain consistent communication with all employees across both companies which will require periodic travel to each entity, customers, vendors, and conferences. This position will require monthly travel to adequately operate the business.
- Maintain and expand strong vendor and customer relationships to support operational efficiency, product quality, and overall business growth.
- Establish new partnerships with suppliers and customers that enhance reliability, reduce lead times, and open new market opportunities.
- Work closely with sales reps and industry experts to identify and add three new distribution products that each contribute a minimum of $1m in sales within a 3 year period.
- Represent company during vendor visits, customer site visits, trade shows, and industry events to promote the company and build long‑term relationships.
- Monitor production schedules for mechanical (boring tools, pipe‑bursting systems, power packs) and electronic product sales (locators, inspection cameras, control units).
- Oversee the repair and service division to make sure documentation and pricing are consistent and accurate.
- Track and improve operational metrics: efficiency, labor utilization, lead times, rework/scrap, and schedule attainment.
- Interview and hire new employees to build a team of A players to support revenue growth targets and operational excellence.
- Establish a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Support sales managers and sales reps to provide leadership and guidance to execute the strategic vision.
- Lead daily huddles, weekly production meetings, and monthly operations reviews to keep teams aligned.
