Perform AC/DC motor rewinding, dismantling, inspection, evaluation, repair, and re‑assembling on large utility generators. Partial or complete rotor and stator rewinds on AC & DC electrical rotating equipment up to 1000 MW. Collect, read, and understand winding data and connections. Rewind, repair, disassemble/assemble electric motor generators, armature, AC‑DC three‑phase and single‑phase from fractional HP up to 3000 HP. Mush and form coil.
Analyze and interpret specifications, drawings, work plans, and other instructions. Conduct/perform electrical tests including surge, impedance, Hi‑Pot, and utility electrical testing. Set up and adjust electrical equipment and inspect testing equipment. Repair/braze/insulate copper winding/leads as required. Expedite shop activities and substitute for or assist other skilled workers. Wind linear induction, traction motor coil winder, etc. Secure coil on slot with proper insulation.
Set up and operate required machines and equipment. Inspect completed products for quality. Professional winder with a minimum of 3–5 years' experience in mush‑type winding for AC 3‑phase induction motors and DC armatures (both round and rectangular form‑type wires are assets). Knowledge of various connections (delta, parallel, series, Y connection). Understand OHMS law, power factor, resistance values, relation of diameter and power to length of pole, relation of pole to speed.
Knowledge and operation of rigging and lifting devices and perform electrical tests such as megger Hi‑Pot testing and utility electrical testing. Strong knowledge of electrical testing equipment. Experience with all other types of AC and DC winding and troubleshooting capabilities. Familiarity and experience with SAMATIC winding machines. Job requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and possess good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills. Ability to work under time constraints and adapt to change. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work within a team environment. Diploma or certificate in electrical engineering/technician is an asset.
