Set Up Bag Technician - 1st Shift (Temp to Hire)
We are looking for an experienced Machine Set Up Operator/Technician to fill a 1st shift role at Pro Ampac, a leading global flexible packaging company located in Cheektowaga, NY. The position is temporary with the possibility of becoming a full‑time employee and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7 AM – 3 PM (weekend overtime as needed).
Pay Range: $20 – $21 per hour, depending on experience.

- Set up bag machines according to customer orders, making appropriate adjustments, changing rolls promptly, and ensuring a constant supply of materials.
- Troubleshoot and fix set‑up issues to maintain quality pouch production.
- Communicate with bag operators to stay on production schedule and ensure continuous operation.
- Operate bag machines during operators' lunch or break periods.
- Organize the workplace using a hand truck to move finished product, record and dispose of scrap and garbage, and maintain the work area per Safe Quality Food requirements by the end of the shift.
- Assist with special projects as required.
- Train new employees in bag department job functions.
- Work effectively with all departments to develop multi‑functional solutions for customers.
- Maintain a customer‑focused perspective to ensure customer needs are met.
- Perform duties accurately to provide correct information and product to personnel and customers.
- Adhere to all Pro Ampac policies and procedures to ensure safety, quality, and appropriate conduct.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of bag operator or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.
- Ability to read, comprehend, write, and present information effectively.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percentages, and interpreting bar graphs.
- Ability to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions and handle problems with multiple variables.
- Strong mechanical ability to make finite adjustments to machinery and use tools.
- Strong professional communication skills.
- Knowledge of flexographic packaging is a plus.
Primarily a manufacturing/warehouse environment with necessary PPE such as hearing protection, safety shoes, and vision protection. Exposure to non‑toxic chemicals, inks, dust, moving mechanical parts, high noise, and hot/humid conditions may occur.
Physical DemandsThis role involves regular use of plant machinery (certification may be required), working around moving equipment, standing for long hours, and reaching with hands and arms. Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds may be required.
