Set Up Bag Technician - 2nd shift (Temp to Hire)
Join us as a Set Up Bag Technician in Cheektowaga, NY, at Gelpac, a leading global flexible packaging company.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM. Weekend overtime may be required.
Pay: $20 – $21 per hour, depending on experience, plus 2nd shift differential.

- Set up bag machines according to customer orders by making appropriate adjustments, changing rolls promptly, and ensuring a constant supply of materials.
- Troubleshoot and resolve setup issues to maintain quality pouch production.
- Communicate with bag operators to keep the production schedule on track.
- Operate bag machines during operator lunch or breaks.
- Organize the workplace, move finished product, dispose of scrap and garbage, and maintain the work area per Safe Quality Food requirements by shift end.
- Assist with special projects as required.
- Train new employees in bag department functions.
- Collaborate with all departments to develop customer‑focused solutions.
- Maintain accurate job duties to provide correct information and product to others.
- Adhere to all Pro Ampac policies and procedures for safety, quality, and conduct.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of bag operator or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.
- Proficient reading, comprehending, writing, and presenting information.
- Basic math ability, including fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages; ability to interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and manage multi‑variable problems.
- Strong mechanical skill for fine machine adjustments using tools.
- Professional communication with staff and customers.
- Knowledge of flexographic packaging is a plus.
Manufacturing/warehouse setting. Requires hearing protection, safety shoes, vision protection, and other PPE. Exposure to non‑toxic chemicals, inks, dust, moving parts, high noise levels, and hot/humid conditions.
Physical DemandsRegular use of plant machinery; may require certification. Standing, walking, using hands/fingers to type, hold, handle, feel, or reach. Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
