Position SummaryReporting to the Procurement Manager, the Packaging Buyer is responsible for ensuring the appropriate level of packaging materials to support manufacturing operations. This role plays a key part in supplier management, cost control, sourcing new materials, and cross‑functional collaboration to support production efficiency and business goals.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor inventory levels of packaging materials and place purchase orders aligned with production forecasts and company standards
- Source new packaging materials as needed; support bid requests and assist with price negotiations
- Evaluate supplier performance related to pricing, service, and delivery
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships; consolidate vendors where appropriate
- Coordinate closely with Production, Marketing, and other departments to ensure correct materials are available at the right time and location
- Support new packaging initiatives including size, design, and specification changes
- Maintain accurate vendor files including pricing, specifications, lead times, and service levels
- Execute approved purchase contracts and inventory transfers
- Monitor market conditions that may impact packaging costs and report findings as needed
- Provide backup support for other buyers to ensure uninterrupted procurement operations
- Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to collaborate across departments in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn food labeling laws
- Organized, detail‑oriented, and proactive problem solver
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred but not required
- 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or procurement
- Experience supporting a manufacturing environment required
- Experience in food manufacturing strongly preferred

- Office-based role within a food manufacturing environment

- Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
