Job Summary

The Charge Nurse is responsible for implementing the plan of care to meet the needs of each Sister, delivering quality clinical services in an atmosphere of dignity and compassion. The Charge Nurse supervises and supports CNAs, NAs, and HHAs, ensuring care duties are carried out effectively and safely while embodying the spirit and mission of the Sisters of Mercy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure person-centered care, focusing on wellness, comfort, and dignity.
  • Supervise and delegate care to CNAs, NAs, and HHAs; provide guidance, training, and shift reporting.
  • Monitor vital signs, nutrition, elimination patterns, and general condition; intervene as needed.
  • Assist Sisters with dressing, bathing, toileting, eating, grooming, ambulation, and other daily needs.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to policy and professional standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure confidentiality.
  • Coordinate scheduling and follow-up of appointments, transfers, and treatments.
  • Support staff participation in Activities and Enrichment programs.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service programs.
Required Qualifications
  • LPN License
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in geriatrics or long‑term care.
  • Strong nursing competencies and knowledge of best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cultivate effective relationships with staff and residents.
  • Strong decision‑making skills and self‑motivation.
  • Attention to detail, problem‑solving, and service orientation.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Visual and auditory acuity to perform essential functions.
Work Environment
  • On‑site role with essential presence required.
  • Must adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
