Job Description
Title: Quality Control Analyst III
Location: Seneca One Tower (1 Seneca Street) Buffalo, NY 14203
Schedule: 40 hours/week; onsite 4 days/week with flexibility on which days; core hours approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Contract Length: Immediate start; currently expected through February; extension possible but not confirmed
Position Overview
This Quality Control Analyst III will be the testing resource on a new, small Scrum team building a new feature for M&T Bank's digital banking applications. The role covers the full QA lifecycle, from requirements planning and test-case design through in-sprint manual testing, end-to-end release validation, QA documentation, and test automation.
This is not an automation-only position. The successful candidate needs a solid QA foundation and must be comfortable owning hands-on manual testing while also contributing to the team's existing automation framework. The broader QA and release organization supports web and mobile banking applications, with an emphasis on meeting quality gates, completing required change and release processes, and ensuring releases are production-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in requirements planning and Scrum activities with developers, Product Owner, Scrum Master, and other delivery partners.
- Translate requirements into detailed test cases with appropriate requirements traceability.
- Perform in-sprint manual testing and validate functionality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Design and execute end-to-end test scenarios prior to production releases.
- Develop release test plans and required QA artifacts in accordance with established testing standards.
- Automate end-to-end test cases and contribute to the team's existing automation framework.
- Support web, mobile, and API testing as applicable to digital banking releases.
- Provide timely testing status updates and proactively escalate quality risks, blockers, and testing timeline concerns.
Required Qualifications
- Approximately 3–5 years of QA/testing experience, with the ability to manage testing activities across the software delivery lifecycle.
- Hands-on test automation experience, including experience contributing to or maintaining an automation solution.
- Working knowledge of at least one object-oriented programming language, such as Java, JavaScript, or Type Script.
- Strong hands-on experience with manual testing, test-case design, end-to-end testing, release validation, and QA documentation.
- Ability to work across both manual and automated testing rather than specializing exclusively in one area.
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum delivery environment.
- Strong, proactive communication skills, particularly the ability to surface testing risks, blockers, and schedule concerns early.
- Ability to work onsite at Seneca One 4 days per week within the team's stated core hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Banking or financial-services QA experience, particularly with digital banking applications.
- API testing experience using Postman.
- Web UI automation using Selenium.
- Mobile test automation using Appium.
- Cucumber and BDD-style automation experience.
- Experience with Zephyr or a comparable test-management platform.
- Experience supporting web and/or mobile application releases.
Important: Banking experience is preferred, not required. Strong QA professionals from other industries should be considered when they clearly demonstrate the core combination of manual QA, automation, and object-oriented programming.
