Target is wiring up its next product line, and the Environmental Engineer we hire in Buffalo, NY gets to choose half the tools. Net it out: freelance, $71,000 - $98,000, 3 years, ownership of the technology outcome, and a Target team that has your back.

• Investigate, diagnose, and fix bugs reported by users and monitoring tools
• Reach into legacy Nginx modules and leave them cleaner than you found them
• Break large technology initiatives into Cypress increments Buffalo can actually deliver
• Spot the quietly-ambitious Git anti-pattern in review before it spreads through Target
• Stand up observability so Target sees failures before customers in NY do
• Lead the Cypress migration that finally retires Target's unhurried legacy stack
• Ship incremental improvements to Target's Buffalo platform on a regular cadence

• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal oversight
• Solid understanding of technology best practices and industry standards
• Experience thriving in a performance-driven, deadline-driven setting like Target
• A point of view on Target's space, sharpened by your own reading
• Calm under the scrappy-but-steady chaos a mid-level role tends to generate
• Strong time-management skills and a bias toward action
• Comfort being measured against a clear mid-level bar
