Position Title: Assistant Mechanic
Reports To: Director of Operations
Salary Range: $19.22 - $22.50 per hour
Supervises: 1+
Requirements: City of Buffalo residency, Driver's license required
Position SummaryThe Assistant Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of all Conservancy-owned and/or assigned equipment and vehicles. This position is part of the Fleet, Buildings & Infrastructure Department and reports directly to the Director of Operations.
This is a full-time position; working 37.5 hours per week with non-exempt status according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Overtime hours may be required at certain times, with supervisor approval.

Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain and repair, as needed, all Conservancy owned/assigned equipment and vehicles; including but not limited to vehicles, mowers, weed whackers, golf carts, etc.;
- Ensure the equipment is in proper working condition to fulfill the maintenance needs of the parks;
- Assist in prioritizing repair and maintenance needs in coordination with the Director of Operations and District Supervisors.
- Ensure that a proper inventory of supplies, parts and tools is kept;
- Ensure the area used for maintaining the equipment as well as the supplies, parts and tool inventory area is kept in an organized manner;
- Assist in keeping an ongoing record of all repairs and maintenance for each piece of equipment and vehicle;
- Train district supervisors and/or other staff in basic equipment maintenance and provide a checklist of items to review prior to utilizing equipment;
- Oversee Small Engine Mechanic Assistant;
- Will be required to travel to all parks for repair and/or pick up of equipment as needed;
- Deliver fuel, as needed, to golf courses;
- Assistance with park maintenance and/or special events as needed;
- Attends Conservancy staff and safety meetings.

- City of Buffalo residency within six-(6) months of hire date;
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in equivalent job duties and/or educational certifications/training;
- A Commercial Drivers License is a plus;
- Willingness to learn new skills;
- Leads by example and adheres to code of ethics for confidentiality, discretion, and policies;
- Transport equipment on a 30 ft trailer throughout park system;
- Resourcefulness in utilizing time, equipment and/or supplies approved within the annual budget to the greatest benefit of the Conservancy;
- Ability to work effectively and respectfully with other employees;
- Professionalism in communication, demeanor and respectful relationship building at the highest level in representing the Conservancy and fostering collaborative partnerships.
- A combination of both indoor and outdoor work environments;
- Outdoor work may be performed in extreme weather conditions;
- A combination of independent and team collaboration;
- Job duties may require an employee to bend, reach, stoop, sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time, as well as lift and/or move heavy objects which at times could be up to 50+lbs.;
- Required to drive distances between park locations and to operate standard to heavy park equipment and vehicles;
- Weekend and holiday work may be required;
- Flexible hours depending on workload and ever-changing priorities;
- Must be able to adapt to ever-changing resources and limited budgets.
