Staff Engineer (Spring Serve Ad Server)

About This Team

We are building a globally distributed ad‑serving system that handles hundreds of billions of requests a day. You will drive project initiatives to improve delivery, tackle demanding technical challenges, and collaborate with a small, passionate team.

Responsibilities

• Act as an expert technical contributor in a talented, high-output development team
• Participate in the back-end design, development, testing, release, and maintenance of critical ad-serving applications
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with your technical expertise
• Be a creative problem‑solver able to design and implement reliable and maintainable solutions to challenging problems
• Translate business requirements into technical designs and project plans
• Write production-ready code and unit tests that meet both system and business requirements
• Respond to feature requests, bug reports, performance issues, and ad‑hoc questions
• Work collaboratively with multiple teams to deliver quality software
• Leverage AI-assisted tools in your development process
• Support the operation of services in testing environments and production
• Perform design and code reviews

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
• 6+ years of relevant work experience in software development
• Experience working in roles where project success was heavily dependent on your personal design and development contributions, technical leadership and broad expertise
• Primary development experience in Java for high-throughput, low-latency back-end web services; experience with asynchronous programming patterns, high concurrency, and frameworks such as Vert.x or Dropwizard is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and ability to recognize business and technical trade-offs between solutions
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development using tools such as Git Hub Copilot, Cursor or Claude
• Experience with development and CI tools like Maven, Git, Docker, build management systems (Code Build or Jenkins), and Jira
• Experience writing unit tests
• Postgres or other relational DB experience with SQL and table design
• Ability to context switch and manage competing priorities

In CO, the base salary range for this position is: $145,000 - $165,000 in addition to an annual variable bonus based on performance and company equity (NASDAQ: MGNI).

In CA, the base salary range for this position is: $165,000 - $185,000 in addition to an annual variable bonus based on performance and company equity (NASDAQ: MGNI).

In NY, the base salary range for this position is: $165,000 - $185,000 in addition to an annual variable bonus based on performance and company equity (NASDAQ: MGNI).
