Embedded Lead Engineer

Location: Cleveland OH, Detroit MI, Akron OH, Buffalo NY, Pittsburgh PA, Columbus OH, Toledo OH, or Ann Arbor MI

Travel: Approximately one week per month, as required

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Lead Engineer with strong expertise in Embedded Linux,
Yocto build systems
, ARM-based embedded platforms
, and embedded software development. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience optimizing embedded systems, integrating microservices and messaging frameworks, and improving system performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Experience with C#, ASP.NET Core microservices, ZeroMQ, ActiveMQ, PostgreSQL, and regulated industries such as medical devices or life sciences is highly desirable.

• Design, develop, and optimize embedded software solutions using Embedded Linux, C#, ZeroMQ, ActiveMQ, and PostgreSQL.
• Work with Yocto Linux build systems and ARM-based embedded platforms, including NXP i.MX6 or similar architectures.
• Manage Linux services using systemd and implement hardware watchdog integration and operating system optimization.
• Design and implement communication strategies between microservices, legacy applications, and embedded systems using messaging frameworks and APIs.
• Optimize database performance, messaging systems, and application reliability.
• Implement observability, monitoring, logging, and proactive incident analysis to improve operational performance.
• Conduct code reviews, perform risk assessments, and maintain technical documentation.
• Provide technical guidance on Yocto-based Linux platforms and embedded software development best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to assess technical feasibility, support delivery roadmaps, and continuously improve solution quality.

• 5–10 years of hands‑on embedded software development experience.
• Strong experience with Yocto Linux build systems

• Working knowledge of Embedded Linux, systemd service management, hardware watchdogs, and Linux OS optimization.
• Familiarity with ASP.NET Core microservices and C#.
• Experience with lightweight inter-process communication (IPC) frameworks such as ZeroMQ or D‑Bus.
• Knowledge of messaging technologies such as ActiveMQ.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and database performance optimization.
• Strong understanding of system integration, APIs, software performance, and reliability.
• Experience with code reviews, technical documentation, risk management, and Agile development.

• Experience in regulated industries, particularly medical devices, life sciences, or healthcare technology.
• Experience integrating embedded systems with microservices and legacy applications.
• Knowledge of system observability, monitoring, logging, and incident management.
• Technical leadership experience guiding engineering teams and improving software quality.
