The Wyoming Veterans' Home is seeking a motivated LPN to provide quality health care to persons with mental health, dementia, and medical needs in a home‑like setting. Our mission is to stabilize and help the people we care for attain and maintain their highest functional level. This is a full‑time position.
This position is eligible for a $2,000 hiring bonus. See notes for eligibility and conditions.

Essential Functions
  • Provides professional nursing services to residents in chronic and acute care settings.
  • Performs nursing assessments, diagnoses, treatment & evaluation of ill and disabled persons.
  • Accurately prepares and administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.
  • Assists patients in ADLs (Activities of Daily Living).
  • Trains and assigns work to CNAs.
Preferred NCES

Preference may be given to individuals with nursing experience in long‑term care and a current unencumbered Wyoming LPN license or those who are eligible for licensure in Wyoming. Graduate LPN nurses are welcome to apply.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of laws, principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records, charts, reports, and observations.
  • Knowledge of principles of the nursing process and scientific process.
  • Knowledge of public healthcare functions and essential services.
  • Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
  • Knowledge of scientific concepts is a basis for decision‑making.
  • Knowledge of physical, biological, and behavioral sciences.
  • Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
  • Knowledge of work management, leadership theory, and practice.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to healthcare.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Wyoming

OR

Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Wyoming

Physical Working Conditions

Must be able to:

  • Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.
  • Work evenings, nights, and/or weekends when the situation requires it.

  • FLSA:
    Non‑exempt
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • For our residents’ health and protection, annual testing for tuberculosis.
  • Employees of this facility will be expected to follow all rules and requirements established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding COVID‑19.
  • Pre‑employment drug testing will be conducted on safety‑sensitive positions (direct patient care positions are considered safety‑sensitive). Drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
  • The Wyoming Department of Health is an E‑Verify employer.
Hiring Bonus Eligibility and Conditions
  • New state employees and temporary employees accepting a permanent position
  • Current state employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been open to the public
  • One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.
  • Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of (1) year from the promotion date.
  • Employees will only be eligible for (1) hiring bonus in a 12‑month period.
