Controls Engineer/Programmer at Premi Star
Responsible for programming and maintaining automatic climate control systems using industry-leading platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Honeywell Controls, Johnson Controls, Trane, Siemens, Distech, and Carrier Controls.
Responsibilities- Project Engineering: design building automation system architecture, develop sequences of operation, control logic, and point lists, and specify BAS components (controllers, sensors, actuators, network devices).
- Programming & Commissioning: program BAS controllers, develop and modify control sequences for HVAC, lighting, and energy management, perform functional testing, point‑to‑point verification, and troubleshoot programming, communication, and hardware issues.
- Technical Support & Documentation: collaborate with technicians, project managers, and contractors to ensure project execution, provide on‑site support during installation and commissioning.
- Compliance & Safety: adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols on job sites.
- Expert System Diagnostics: diagnose and repair complex HVAC systems with minimal assistance.
- Engineering Knowledge: deep understanding of HVAC system design, including AHUs, VAVs, chillers, and boilers.
- System Integration: integrate BAS with third‑party systems using BACnet, Modbus, Lon Works, or other protocols.
- Energy Management & Optimization: conduct energy audits and implement energy‑saving strategies.
- Advanced Refrigerant Systems: troubleshoot refrigeration cycles, retrofit systems, and manage advanced refrigerants.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: mentor senior technicians and lead complex projects.
- Client & Stakeholder Relations: manage high‑level relationships and present solutions.
- Project Management: oversee large BAS projects from design to operation.
- At least 5 years experience with BAS controls platforms (Tridium Niagara, Trane, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, or Distech).
- At least 3 years experience developing, building, testing, and commissioning complete building control systems including graphical interfaces.
- Working knowledge of commercial HVAC and control equipment installation, operation, and repair.
- Understanding of electrical circuits and systems.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Tridium Niagara 4 Certification.
- Distech Gfx Certified.
- Honeywell Ciper Certified.
- Reflow Certified.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Visio, Excel, and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Organized with the ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
This primarily sedentary role involves occasional filing and lifting of files, opening filing cabinets, bending, and standing. The role also requires field access to mechanical rooms and occupied buildings, necessitating the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, climb ladders, and navigate above‑ceiling or rooftop areas. Extended periods of standing, walking, and transitioning between office and field environments are expected.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed in both office settings (programming, documentation, coordination) and field settings (mechanical rooms, equipment spaces). Conditions include varying temperatures, dust, and exposed electrical panels. Physical activity in confined spaces and exposure to maintenance equipment are routine.
