Job Summary
The Mechanic will work with the Director of Plant Operations, Facility Manager, and the Maintenance Team to maintain the boilers, chillers, air handlers, and infrastructure of the hospital and campus. Medical gas experience is a plus. Experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
The Maintenance Engineer III is responsible for performing advanced maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting tasks on complex systems within a healthcare facility. This role ensures the reliability and safety of critical infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, and/or emergency power systems. The Maintenance Engineer III also leads maintenance projects, ensures compliance with healthcare regulations, and provides mentorship to junior engineers.
Work HoursMonday – Friday. Hours to be determined. On occasion, hours may flex as projects and emergencies dictate, and the employee may take part in a rotating on‑call roster.

- Conduct rounds of all areas, including equipment rooms and mechanical rooms, to ensure security and proper functioning of systems.
- Perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on critical systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas systems, backup power, elevators, lighting, and other infrastructure.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of essential healthcare systems such as medical gas systems, sterilization units, and emergency power systems, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to Joint Commission standards, OSHA regulations, fire safety codes, and healthcare‑specific guidelines, maintaining documentation for audits and inspections.
- Lead emergency maintenance efforts during off‑hours, weekends, and holidays to minimize disruptions caused by system failures.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate HVAC equipment control systems, ensuring optimal performance.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record maintenance activities, manage work orders, and track inventory.
- Coordinate with hospital departments, contractors, and vendors to ensure maintenance activities align with hospital priorities and do not disrupt patient care.
- Respond to fire alarms, disaster alerts, and security incidents as a key member of the response team.
- Perform assigned security rounds and ensure access areas are locked and unlocked per policy and procedure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Associate degree or formal training in facility maintenance, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred.
- 5‑7 years in facilities maintenance, with a minimum of three (3) years in a healthcare or hospital environment required.
- 1‑2 years of expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical gas systems preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting techniques for complex building systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission standards, OSHA regulations, and fire safety codes.
- Proficiency in using CMMS software for managing work orders and tracking maintenance activities.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills to support junior technicians.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, especially in high‑pressure situations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic healthcare environment.
- DL NUMBER – Driver License, valid and in state required.
- Licensed Steam Boiler and Refrigeration within the first six (6) months of employment required.
- Licensed Maintenance Electrician required or
- Certified HVAC Technician required or
- Licensed Plumber required.
- Certified in at least one level of Freon safety, removal, fill and use required.
- New Mexico:
Medical Gas (Med/Gas) Certification and/or Pipe fitters Certification preferred.
