We are currently seeking Qualified Paramedics to join East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

You must be already working as a fully Qualified Paramedic, with at least 2 years post‑qualifying experience as a Newly Qualified Paramedic at the time of application.

Recruitment Process

The selection process for the Qualified Paramedic role will likely include an in‑person clinical scenario (assessment centre) followed by an interview, either in person or remotely.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 paramedic you are expected to provide guidance and support to newly qualified paramedics, associate ambulance practitioners/technicians and care assistants. You will need to evidence that you are up to date and have maintained continual professional development as a paramedic.

You will already hold your C1 category on your driving licence and you will need to provide evidence that you have completed a recognised qualification allowing you to drive under blue‑light conditions in a C1 size vehicle (examples: IHCD D1/D2 or Future Quals Emergency Ambulance Driving). The post holder will report to the Station Manager and the Duty Commander for the locality.

The Divisional Senior Clinical Leader will also support development efforts, and the Head of Operations oversees the locality.

About us

The social element of the role will involve working in a positive team that supports each other. The DSCL will run regular training sessions to cover all aspects of the role.

The Trust has a wide range of support available to staff, including but not limited to peer‑to‑peer and pastoral care networks, and TRiM practitioners. We emphasise health & wellbeing, mental health support and building professional resilience.

EMAS is an inclusive employer and would particularly welcome applications from under‑represented communities. The Trust is also ‘Disability Confident Committed’. EMAS has a wide range of staff networks that Paramedics may wish to join, including BME, Disability, Neurodiversity, Carer, Women and Armed Forces. We always encourage staff to get involved.

EMAS has been assessed as ‘Good’ by the healthcare regulator (the CQC). We are proud of our achievement and outstanding status in the caring domain and strive to be outstanding in all areas. Paramedics play an important part in this.

Job responsibilities

Adopt a proactive approach to the compliance with all policies, procedures and clinical guidelines as dictated by the Trust, ensuring you keep within the scope of practice of a HCPC paramedic.

Attend mandatory education courses that are essential for maintaining professional registration and/or organisational development.

Ensure a continuous duty of care to patients as required by local policies and the relevant HCPC standards, acting within the defined scope of practice applicable to the role. Monitor patients continually and safely until they are transferred to the care of another health care provider or discharged into the care of a safety‑netting provider.

Carry out daily vehicle and equipment checks ensuring any defects are promptly reported in line with locally agreed policies. Ensure equipment stock levels are within Trust guidelines and that equipment is safe and ready to use. Ensure all drugs that the post holder is responsible for are in date and sealed, and that all paperwork is filled out correctly.
