School Caretaker

Location: Nottingham
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Salary: £28,000 - £33,000

Milk Education is working in partnership with a specialist school in Nottingham that is looking to appoint a reliable and proactive School Caretaker on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a welcoming school where you'll play a key role in ensuring the site remains safe, secure, well maintained and fully operational, creating a clean, safe and positive environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the school site is safe, secure and compliant with health and safety, safeguarding and statutory regulations.
  • Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and planned preventative maintenance across the school site.
  • Complete regular health and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, intruder alarms and other statutory testing.
  • Open and lock the school, maintain site security and ensure the buildings and grounds are presented to a high standard.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and site issues, prioritising safety and minimising disruption to learning.
  • Liaise with contractors and support the coordination of maintenance works and statutory inspections.
  • Support the Business Manager with health and safety responsibilities, including risk assessments, COSHH and compliance records.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, asset registers and site documentation.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Previous experience in a caretaker, site supervisor, facilities or maintenance role, ideally within a school or educational setting.
  • Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, COSHH and site compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and solve problems effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with a proactive and flexible approach.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe learning environment.
